Many ask for things beyond code requirements.

Yes (unless something really weird was going on to justify it). But in my experience, manufacturers tend to refer to all electrical supplies as "services," whether they're actual services, feeders, branch circuits, taps .... They just call the point where their unit connects "the service." I don't doubt that the installation instructions call for 2 services (meaning, of course, 2 branch circuits).

but if it actually says "two services" in the instructions, how would one ever comply?
