Does anyone know how long a stand by generator can run at maximum capacity? I'm reading that a 20KW unit will produce 83A (LP)@240V. Would this be able to operate at that for an extended period of time? Can't seem to find any data that lists continuous loads and running times. Any rules of thumb to follow as far as % of full capacity load? Would seem that 75%(62A) would be a safe assumption, Right, Wrong?? Thanks.

The whole house standby generators that I have seen do have power versus time specifications, although not necessarily included with the unit.
In particular a standby generator, even the whole house type, will not be designed to operate for extended periods of time (days, weeks) in the way that a "prime mover" generator would be.
In California where there are special emissions requirements for small portable generators, you will see warranties that specify between 100 and 300 total operating hours before the unit no longer meets the emissions requirements and can no longer legally be used.

I assume they come with an hour meter!

Depends on the brand and model, some are integrated into the controller some are external and some are optional if offered at all.

Many of the cheaper brands may not last 250 hours of operation before requiring replacement due to being used up like a disposable lighter, others experience outright failure.
Incident runtime periods, continuous loading percentage and load periods vary greatly with brands and models.
Most reputable manufacturers publish loading and runtime derating charts.
The manufacturer should be able to answer your questions and backup their claims with published data and a performance warranty.
