expansion joints for in ground conduit runs

What are the requirements for expansion joints in both direct buried underground conduit runs and concrete encased conduit runs in the ground.

Also, does there exist expansion joints specifically designed for such applications?

I don't see how expansion joints would work in either case and have never seen them used with underground conduits.

Only when matched up with expansion joints in the concrete itself, like in bridges. Not underground.
