Our typical solar installation involves using a submeter base in series with the inverter to measure solar energy production. Whether or not the utility requires one, we usually put this in so that there is a record of the energy produced. sometime the utility provides it, and it is always a standard meter base like you'd find at the service entrance.
Meter sockets are made to have the neutral and ground bonded to the case right in the middle of the meter base. Of course there is only one place int he system that is really allowed to have such a bond.
What should be done with the neutral wire in this submeter? Should the ground wire connect to the center terminal, and the neutral continue through the socket insulated and unconnected?
