Thermal inspection of switches on 2.4kV to 138kV reveal hot joints in hinges and contact points. When performing maintenance we clean what we can and apply an anti-ox to contacts. The hinges get exercised during cleaning and we have applied several different lubricants over the years.
I always felt this was a poor way to do this because of the oil in the spray but it seems to have worked most of the time. The lube will wash out over time and we see the hotspots come back eventually. One of my other concerns is dirt attracted to the oil.
What products are out there that might serve us better?
