I think this has been talked about but I'm ready to start working on my first 2014 NEC house. Does the dishwasher (hard wired) in a kitchen require both GFCI and AFCI protection.

Thanks a bunch.

Under the 2014 code, yes, the branch circuit that supplies a dwelling unit dishwasher must have AFCI protection and the outlet that serves the dishwasher must have GFCI protection.

And the GFCI must remain accessible.
...
Actually it must be "readily accessible", but if you have a first printing soft cover code book, you would not know that.

The text in the first edition only requires that GFCIs required by 210.8(A) though (C) be readily accessible.

Item #1 in Errata #2 corrects that printing error.

1. In 210.8 change the reference in the first sentence from: ?210.8(A) through (C)? to ?210.8(A) through (D).?
