Moving to Texas - License Requirements

I recently moved to Texas from Pennsylvania. Texas requires Master Electricians to have 12,000 hours of experience which is supposed to be verified by another Master Electrician from Texas. I have the hours, I just need to get Texas to accept my out of state experience. I've tried contacting the licensing office with this question but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone had a similar experience? I would really prefer not to start over as an apprentice - so I'm hoping there is a way I can work this out!

Not sure in Texas but I think they should have forms that can be sent to those that can verify your expereince. If you have been working for licensed contractors or engineers or even GCs.
Once your experience has been verified it's up to the board to accept or not accept said experience.

So you send as much as you can to include schools attended.

While you are on the TDLR website, you can look around at the rules and regulations and whatnot.

I don't see anything in the requirements that says the experience has to be verified by a Texas master, it just says master electrician.

I believe if you are a licensed master you may be able to verify your own experience, don't quote me on that.

We do not reciprocate with PA so you will have to test, regardless.

Best I can say is fill out the forms, verify your experience and send in the forms and your money and good luck.
 
Hey wirebender, i think i can help.

I was stationed in the Navy in Virginia and got my Master license in 06' and moved to
Texas. I took the test for texas last year in August and now holds a Texas Master license.

Every year that you hold a Master's license somewhere else, it counts for 2000 hours credit so 6 years equals up to 12000 hours.

To make a long story short, all you need to do is verify your on experience and time, submit your paperwork for eligibility and take your test. It's easy as that. And pay a fee of course.
