I have to walk thru some engineers who are going to spec EV charging station w 4-8 chargers here
They want to put in some mix of DC Fast Chargers (480v) and L2 Chargers.
I am supposed to help them survey for power sources at our institution.
I wont have the numbers till tuesday. Im researching them a little right now.
Can anyone with familiarity w these types of installations mention some issues I should look into pls?

If they want to install only four Fast Chargers, looks like [4] 44kW chargers to require (367) ~400a 480v service, maybe less if they use a demand factor.
HONK

So I have a couple of sources: one is a good size PV field, but that begs the question of night time charging!
Also they really only have 3 inverters at 100a 480v each. Kind of like each inverter could almost drive one charger. But it would sure be Green!
I think the main at the nearby mains is 1600a 480.
My meter there is 12kV =)

Some possible issues: Load calcs, running the main at 80% capacity... And what about the original co-ordination studies?

Also, one famous company has proposed to supply giant banks of batteries, for "free" to capture off peak power and store it to deliver on peak demand.
They would split the captured savings with us - after installation fees...
And don't even mention sole sourcing!

So this turns out to be for 10 class2 Chargers

the estimators talking about 400 amp panel 208v
but the salesman wants a 200 amp panel w 75 kVA transformer

I have a lightly loaded 75 kVA transformer that's only had a peak usage of 10 kVA

I'm going to have to go in and research what is the demand factor for 10
40 amp class two chargers

I got a lightly loaded 800a 480 V main switchgear befor that

Demand factor for 10
Class 2 charging stations at

40a 208v
