NEC110.26(F) only mentioned switchboard, panelboard, distribution panels, and MCC shall have dedicated space. Does dedicated space apply to disconnect and motor starter? Thanks.

What version of the NEC are you on? 110.26(F) is for locked electrical rooms
But to answer your question

But the equipment you describe requires working space, which could be considered dedicated space

dahualin:
There are two very important reasons that the NEC discusses dedicated space and working space separately:

1. Working space does not usually extend as far above the equipment in question. It is what is needed to get safe access to the equipment for maintenance and troubleshooting. You cannot permanently (or even in most cases temporarily) place anything in the working space. You and your tools are allowed to occupy the space, of course!
2. Dedicated space extends above the equipment in question but NOT in front of it. And you can put anything you want into the dedicated space as long as it is also electrical equipment. It can be thought of as leaving room for expanding the initial installation without worrying about what other trades might stick into that empty space.

I should rephrase my question to avoid confusion. Does NEC require dedicated space above disconnect switches and motor starters? In other words, can we located disconnect switches and motor starters under duct works? Thanks.
