Hello,
I have a transformer on a piece of equipment that I am having trouble sourcing a replacement or something comparable to it due to a lack of info on the existing transformer.

The only markings I can see are:
TRT-40
Mibu-Denki
600V
40A
50?

It looks like the primary is 200 volts and I have measured 7.4 volts on the secondary side. This is powering a resistive heater element. There are 9 different wires attached to the primary side and I don't have a good diagram for it. I will post a picture of the transformer and the diagram and any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

It is likely a custom built unit.
You probably need to go back to the original equipment manufacturer and see what they are offering as a replacement.

It looks like your primary is multi-tapped and the heater output is regulated by the switching of these taps.

I agree, but the manufacturer is long out of business.

I can't get a replacement for the control box so I was going to drop a PLC on it and write a program for it using the existing frame and parts. Controlling the voltage between 6 and 8.3 volts is the only part holding me up.
Thanks for the reply

If you're adding a PLC to the machine, consider using a stepdown transformer with a 9v secondary (with the proper VA capacity, of course) and a solid state relay. Put the solid state relay on the transformer's primary, as it can be much smaller than if it was on the secondary. Use the PLC to turn the SSR on and off to control the heat.

The time constant of whatever you're heating is probably on the order of seconds to a few minutes at least, so on-off bang-bang control should be sufficient to hold your temp within less than a degree.

50degC?
Also, do you have a picture of the nameplate that would include the the ratings and connection diagram?

No, all I have is what is on the unit, but I did get a better look and it does not say 50?, it appears to be 5.5?. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a temp rating of some sort, the degree symbol is square and may not be relevant.

There is no diagram other than the one I posted earlier.
