What method load calcs shall I use for 15-unit apartment building????
I am determining size of the new 1-phase, 120/240v service .

First you need to know how many appliances, size of HVAC, water heater how many receptacles lights add it all up then use 220.84.

You can't include the house loads into the demand factor. You should take the apartment loads, apply the demand factor, and the add the house loads on to that.

I think in your case, the standard calculation will provide a lower demand the the optional calculation. It will still be greater than 400A, though.

the owner is probably right that a 400A service will be adequate.

it would not appear to meet code requirements though.

The standard method is section 220.40 through 220.61, as applicable.

There is no load limits for using this method.

I would use the Pencil and Paper method...:lol: Look at Article 220 and calculate each unit as a dwelling unit.

Standard is Article 220 Part II (220.40 through 220.61).
Optional is Part III (220.84 in your case).

The demand factors are different for each method, so the total calculated load will be different for each method.
