What method load calcs shall I use for 15-unit apartment building????
I am determining size of the new 1-phase, 120/240v service .

What about for 4-unit apartment bulding

Either standard or optional methods of Article 220. Can't say any more without more particulars...

please review my load calc that showes or justifies 600A

but owner tells me if i can finish it with 400A service
400A is adequate , he said.

First you need to know how many appliances, size of HVAC, water heater how many receptacles lights add it all up then use 220.84.

here is my, hand made load calc

You can't include the house loads into the demand factor. You should take the apartment loads, apply the demand factor, and the add the house loads on to that.

I think in your case, the standard calculation will provide a lower demand the the optional calculation. It will still be greater than 400A, though.

What/which one is standard method
220-42 ?
my total load is below 90k va can I still use this method??

What about for 4-unit apartment bulding

I would use the Pencil and Paper method...:lol: Look at Article 220 and calculate each unit as a dwelling unit.

Standard is Article 220 Part II (220.40 through 220.61).
Optional is Part III (220.84 in your case).

The demand factors are different for each method, so the total calculated load will be different for each method.
