My wife is accepting a position in Oahu. I have been searching all over the internet for some information on transferring my WA state journeymen license to Hawaii. I pretty much have come up with nothing, except starting an apprenticeship over again. Can someone guide me in the right direction, or provide some credible information? :slaphead:

You might want to start by calling the state lic office. I think they only have very few test per year. Without your Hi journeyman lic here it might be harder to find competitive wages. Hey your on the forums so you are on the right track. Most workers here are like Mike holt? who's mike holt??Who needs the NEC, what ever the last guy taught me is good enough.

Good luck, theres a lot of work starting.

If one state will reciprocate with another state, generally all you need to do is submit the proper fee and fill out some papers and you are licensed in the second state. If they don't reciprocate, you likley need to take their exam before you can get their license, but you should still be able to count whatever experience you have toward any requirements they have just to be eligible to take the exam. That is for journeymen, or other low or mid level licenses, contractors licenses or masters licenses they often do not reciprocate, they want you to take their exam if you want to do business in their state, kind of a "protect our own contractors" kind of thing.

You won't have to do your apprenticeship over but you are going to have to verify your hours (notary) take the jman test again. Also there are new requirements that you must have some approved safety training program hours and that is where you might stumble as the only approved program accepted here is the one the IBEW runs. Oldtimer's got grandfathered in but new applicants must have the training ticket. Applications are available online - http://hawaii.gov/dcca/pvl/boards/electrician/

Thanks for the help everyone! I'll try and call the state office tomorrow to confirm everything I read in the link provided. I guess I didn't think it would be this easy. From all the research I did, nothing officially confirmed the answers I needed. I don't mind re testing, because it keeps e on my toes.
