UseThreadless RGS Coulpling

Where you don't want to thread a conduit or if there are bends in the pipes you want to join and there is no room to twist them together

Not taking spec into account where and why would you use these? ty

When you cut a conduit you have to decide to either thread it for threaded fittings or leave it unthreaded and use threadless fittings.

Many electricians, including myself feel threaded fittings are better but breaking out the threading equipment is time consuming and once the conduit is bigger than 2" the threading equipment becomes a real chore to bring to the job.

Why ever thread? More time consuming, correct?

How are they threadless couplings secured to the pipe?
How about RGS in concrete pour. Would that make a difference for the type of couplings?

thanks

If it is a new installation then threader is less expensive.

If it is a new installation and only one or two conduits then the thread less is less expensive.

If it is a retrofit and you have an existing installed conduit and you need to extend it then thread less is less expensive.

It also depends on the size of the conduit and the time it will take you to take off, thread it, and reinstall it.

In some cases, the size of the threadless connectors can be a problem.

Be cautious that the fitting you select is listed for the type conduit you are using.
In some case the O.D.s of the conduit are the same and a threadless fitting will fit
but not be listed for that type conduit.
