Metallic outlet boxes.

Just curious, do you have a specific question you are trying to answer?

I know it sounds silly, however I am looking for installation instructions for 4square boxes with out brackets, my understanding is the 1'4" mounting holes in the rear are for mounting, not the 1/8" holes on the side at the front of the box, there are mounting accessories for mounting to metal studs and bracket boxes for others.

thanks

Okay, that old argument. Here is a thread on the topic:

I just read through that. I notice the person who contacted UL never got back to us? I find the topic interesting because my first thought is that using those two holes instead of a bracket box is kind of half --- work. Then I am reminded that I am directing my men to use tie wire to secure MC to metal studs and my equals in the company are all wondering if the inspector will let it pass etc. and I am of the opinion that it is actually better for securing than say one hole straps with a screw. So hack work is in the eye of the beholder. And yes, I have used those screws to secure a box before, but usually in a one of situation where I didn't feel the need to run all the way to a supply house.
