Hypothetically

A manufacture is saying to wire their suana with 10 wire on a 30amp circuit.

The sauna is 6000 watts @240v.

I'm seeing 25 amps at 125% = 31.25
I'm seeing 80 % of 30 =24 amps not 25.

I'm thinking 8's on a 40 amp.

Am I right or wrong? If I'm right, because the manufacturer says 10's on a 30 am I wrong for not following the manufacturers directions?

Thank you

I cant think of any NEC section requiring that to be supplied at 125%.

6,000W/240V=25 amps

Looks like 10s on a 30 to me.

Nothing about heater loads.. it is a heater right?

I think it might be more of appliance than a space heater.

I. General
424.1 Scope. This article covers fixed electric equipment
used for space heating. For the purpose of this article, heating
equipment shall include heating cable, unit heaters, boilers,
central systems, or other approved fixed electric space-heating
equipment. This article shall not apply to process heating and
room air conditioning.

I would like to see what category the unit is listed under, I doubt it is listed as electric space-heating equipment.

I went looking in the UL white book. It has its own listing, it is not 'space heating equipment' even though that is what it does.

HEATERS, SAUNA AND STEAM BATH
(KPJV)

Sauna Heating Equipment (KPSX)

USE AND INSTALLATION

This category covers heating equipment intended for concentrated heating
at elevated temperatures in relatively confined areas with or without
the addition of moisture.

Compare to baseboard heaters

BASEBOARD HEATERS (KLDR)
USE AND INSTALLATION
This category covers space heaters of the portable and permanently mounted
types intended to be positioned or installed on or in the wall at
the baseboard level, or on the floor.

I'm still looking through the book, but just to add, when I google this some people are saying 10's some 8's.

The manufactures are saying 10's some 8's.

This manufacture say 10's when the unit is 25 amps @ 6000 watts and 8's when their units are 28.8 amps ??

Now if you have a heater that hangs, that's still space heater even though it's not at a baseboard level..

I think even those 2x2 panels??

There are a boat load of different listings for heating equipment. If you poke around the internet you can usally find the UL General directory for download and you can look at each one if you want.

My own personal preference is to follow what the manufacturer says. :)
