I don't do any fire alarm stuff so I am not up on the abbreviations or any of what is in NFPA 72 for that matter.

They're just being proactive: Why waste time with fire alarms when you can control the fire directly? I bet inside there is one of these panels:

Right up there with the wall panel labelled "Fire Hose Extinguisher". Can't have burning fire hoses now, can we?

PS: The fire hose was long gone (after sprinklers were installed?), but the extinguisher remained.
