Have a little debate on a job. Argument is that you can not tie and support a Class 2 circuit (non metallic cable 18/2) with metal tie wire. Worried about damage to the nonmetallic sheath.
This is more of a "What says the code" than anyone actually installing it this way.
I can not find anything explicitly prohibiting it:
"725.3 (2008) Circuits and equipment shall comply with the articles or sections listed in 725.3(A) through (G). Only those sections of Article 300 referenced in this article shall apply to class 1, class 2 and class 3 circuits."
Only thing i can find for Class 2 referenced to Article 300 is:
725.143 Support of Conductors. (Supporting conductors by other raceways, takes you to 300.11(B)(2)
I think if the metal tie wire is loosely tied it posses no threat of damage to the wire. Not much different than driving a staple loosely for NM cable.
