Is there anywhere in the code book that says anything about installing a light on a chimney? I was driving down the road today and noticed a house that had this and thought it just didn't look right.

Out in the country? Landing strip in the back?

If the equipment (and related parts) is rated for the install, then I don?t see a problem with it, nor does code.

There wasn't any conduit that I could see, so it was like it was roughed in when they laid the brick.

I was responding to a query about a light on a house chimney. My first thought was the occupants had left the Santa Claus beacon inadvertantly turned on.

So, Church, Metropolitan area, Chimney (I suspose as opposed to a Spire or Bell Tower - although I would not know what difference it would make) Truely I would not have a clue.

There is nothing in the NEC to prohibit this. It would probably be a building code but I bet the chimney is not in use-- I assume this was for a fireplace???

That was my church. :)
We have a HID mounted to the chimney but it is for gas furnace vent not a coal or wood burning flue. And it is brick construction.

How is the wire installed in the chimney. Does it run near the flue pipe? or is this surface mounted outside
