I am designing a laboratory TI. The available power source is 120/208, 3-phase. One item on the lab equipment list requires 230 volts, single phase, 50 hertz, under 20 amps. I would like to tell the owner to find a different device that does the same job but with the available power supply. But to forestall a possible question from the owner, I would like to know the approximate size and cost of a converter that can provide the item's required power. Any ideas? Any links to an available power converter?

Does this device NEED 50Hz? Some devices operate fine at 60Hz, though some don't. If this is just an oven or something with heaters 60Hz will not be an issue. All that's needed is a buck boost to get 208 up to 230 volts.

If the device must run on 50Hz then it becomes a bit different. A motor generator set will be needed or a static frequency converter. For the price and energy to run it, a device under 20amps is not worth it unless the device costs way to much.

All I know is what the manufacturer's web site tells me. The company resides in the UK, and all their products use the same voltage and frequency.

Id call them just to double check. A lot of stuff is variable frequency drive an rectifies the incoming power so frequency doesn't matter.
