I came across a truck that has a generator to power 3 phase power 230 volts for a portable motor with a plug to a receptacle on this truck. Is this a safe setup for personal in the event of a ground fault ? I don't see how a egc would work to keep it safe.

What is the fault current path back the generator windings?
Why would an EGC make it unsafe?
What are you suggesting?

I understand current trys to return to the source it came from, for some reason I 'm missing how this truck is being grounded. I am not suggesting a egc is unsafe, because of my not understanding how the fault would clear the breaker I misstated my post.

You don't need a ground rod to make it safe.

You need an EGC and the generator must have a bonded neutral.
