25 years in business

The pigtail is energized. The load is the receptacle. The owner was going to need another suicide cord from the generator to make it work.

It could have been an "Oh shucks" moment.

You don't need another cord you plug the live male cord into the generator and just back feed the utility. :(

And the one item that for certain doesn't work is the boiler that you unplugged the supply cord from:blink:

Tom don't you know that a male "inlet" and female cord connector is too expensive?

Ref the thread title, the competitor that installed this has been in business for 25 years +-.
I am trying to visualize how this could have been an Oops and not gross stupidity.

Just wait until you call them and ask about this installation and they say something like "we do this all the time" thinking that will be a proper explanation.

I had one of the biggest HVAC companies in the country try and use that as an excuse and I'm sure they have been in business at least 25 years. ( not the same rig but something just as stupid)

I use to see the ac disconnect fed from the temp power pole to hot check.
They say an inspector was driving by saw it got out took his dukes and chopped the wire into little sections. .

I'd love to get into a legal battle with that inspector over his actions, well not really, but IMO he can red tag it, assess fines if they are in his arsenal of weapons, or even order POCO to disconnect the service in some cases, but he has no right to start destroying property.

Rockwired,,,,you guys that really know what you re talking about and on an average have more applied understanding than some inspectors. I admire your skill and ability.
I personally dont argue with inspectors mostly because what they usually want done is cheaper to say Ill do it. I think i have gotten green tags that could have been red just for agreeing to comply

Fortunately for us in NE, we have a decent State Electrical Division, and a director that won't put up with poor performance from his inspectors, that goes for current director as well as all the past directors I have known about. Some of the stories I hear about - like from this and other forums of some of the ridiculous activity from an inspector just makes me want to slap the hell out of them if I were in that position. Sure I hear a lot of complaints from non electricians when the inspector word comes up in conversation, but I honestly feel our state EI's are generally pretty fair and are very knowledgeable. If they run into a situation where they have little or no experience with they don't just jump to conclusions and say this is how it is going to be, they call their supervisor or even other inspectors that maybe have more experience in that particular area and find out what is right. If you do question something they bring up - they will work with you to find the right solution, or if you are wrong they will support their position by citing the necessary code to back them up and not give you "just because I say so" type of enforcement.

Truthfully any time the chief inspector had to get involved the inspector had to give
some breathing room .
Strange how chief inspector is usually on the side of the electrician .

I warned a GC once about his cords back before OSHA, He watched me cut the ends off after a couple warnings. I softened the blow by putting new ones on.

Sad to admit this but whenever I need a cord at home I dig through our job boxes and cut of the ends of any cords that could be cited, then take em home an put on new ends. Safety lady praises me, foreman just shakes his head and grins.
