Rated walls enclosing electrical room

No requirement in the electrical code or building code.
Some jurisdictions have amendments that require it.

In our area (NYC), I believe if the walls are not 2 hour rated they are required to have sprinkler heads.

"Guys, who and/or what determines fire rating for walls enclosing electrical rooms?"
egurdian3,

If there is a "required" fire rating of your Electrical Room, ....in some jurisdictions,
the Building Official or the Fire Marshall or both will make the determination.

They should be contacted to discuss your particular application........They will need
to know what the size of the room is, ...what type & size of electrical components
will actually be installed in that room, ...what; if any, other types of equipment will
be installed in that room, etc........Refer to Table 509 in the `12 IBC for a
starting point reference.

Are you inquiring about an "Electrical Room" or an "electrical closet" ?

Also, ...is your Electrical Room located on an exterior wall [ RE: Section 705 in
the `12 IBC ] ?

Thanks!

I have seen where POCO has a vault inside a building and it is built to POCO specs (rare but it does happen).
