A player ring protrudes from the sheetrock a little late as than a 1/4 inch. Installing a new plaster ring is not an option.
Is there a device cover that would fit tight to the sheetrock when the plaster ring protrudes?

Not sure about the 1/4" or so, but some device covers are a bit more raised to help. On previous post, it was suggested to change to a 2-gang plaster ring (cutting out the sheet-rock) and installing 2 devices with an oversize plate.

Did you try using a short section of 2x4 as a block and hitting the egde of the ring w/ hammer? That might move everything back enough. And despite the temptation to do so, don't use mudrings that are the same thickness or narrower than the drywall-use rings that are the next size up.

Actually a new plaster ring is an option, just sounds like no one wants to repair the drywall.

Look at the backside of, say, a Leviton duplex receptacle cover, where the screw goes thru the middle. You will see a little 'donut' (or raised boss) of plastic there. If you carefully trim that away with a razor knife, the entire backside of the cover will all be at the same level/height. The receptacle will stick out the the cover a bit, but the cover might wind up flush to the wall, w/o tearing out sheetrock. You can do the same with switchplates, you'll just have 2 pieces of plastic to trim per gang. Unbreakable covers have to be used ofc, but imho they should be used anyway.

If that doesnt take up the slack caused by the mudring sticking out, you are pretty much gonna have to tear out the sheetrock to fix it.
 
I ended up cutting the plastic as u suggested. Actually made it look better by bringing it closer to the sheet rock. Going to put a small bead of white silicone around it, customer is happy with that. I appreciate your feedback
