Im trying to find 5 conductor aerial for a 100amp feeder and Im running into a wall. Anybody know a supplier and why is it so hard to find, isn't it required if your running a 4 wire 3 ph feeder overhead to separate building. Anyway any direction would be awesome

Thanx
Jeff

Just a suggestion but maybe buy twice the amount of triplex remove the bare wire from one set and twist the other two conductors in with the first triplex. Might depend how far but it may work.

I have wondered this too, now that the "neutral rebonding" rule for detached structures is gone. I am not sure if quintplex is availble. Note that you can make your own "messenger supported wiring" per NEC. SER could be used in conjunction with a messenger for example.

Those aerial cables are not recognized by NEC in the first place - so why should we expect them to comply with other needs from NEC - such as a five conductor assembly? Not saying they never get used in NEC covered applications, they just are not covered by the NEC.

Four conductor assembly is most conductors typically needed by a utility company which is who purchases the bulk of this kind of cable assembly.

We have had this question come up a number of times. Just last week we had another need for this. I posed the question to our Southwire rep. He said he would look in to it. Since the bulk of the use of this type of messenger cable is for the POCO's and they would never need it with 4 insulated conductors (quinplex?) I suspect the market for this not big enough for the manufactures to be interested.

They will make anything you want I suspect, but if you only want a hundred feet or so it will be pretty expensive per foot compared to buying several thousand feet at a time.

If I needed a 5 wire aerial, I would probably buy quadplex and wrap on an additional single XHHW. Maybe throw on some heavy Uv resistant zip ties depending how good my wrap job came out. I have done a messenger supported SER, but it just seems like a bit of a bastard thing.
