direct burial under driveway

Someone told me that direct buried cable has to be in conduit under a residential driveway (it will be a dirt driveway). Is this correct? I cant find it in the code. I know conduit is always the safe option and its cheap. But that's not the case in this situation and it would be a pain to slide 30' of pipe down a 330' piece of cable.

see 300.5. 12-18" depending on the cable. Conduit isnt required there and furthermore doesnt permit in this instance to go shallower.
