I have a situation where I need 175 amps, 3 phase, 480 volts. I have a 225 amp, 3 phase, 480 volt panel available with a 225 amp main breaker. There are other breakers in the panel but there is a minimal load, approximately 10 to 20 amps per phase. Can I add this 175 amp breaker to the panel ? Thank you.

Check your label in the panel. It may have a breaker size limit per stab.

maybe you can add an external 175A CB and wire it feed through.

For sure, that or a fused disconnect may be able to be tapped onto the panel feeder.

I was just pointing out that a panel with a 225 amp main will not normally have spare provisions to accommodate a 200 amp frame size breaker. We can certainly order them like that but would not unless there was a reason. :)
