All,

There's a 480V panel that has several underrated breakers in our plant. SKM was showing an Isc of about 35kA and the current breakers are rated for 32kA I think. We went ahead and replaced these with 65kA breakers. The question I have is, do panelboards themselves have Isc ratings as well? This one in particular is a Siemens panelboard. If an Isc rating does exist, where could I find it?

Thanks

They do and you should be able to get that info from the mfg or supplier.\
It might be worth verifying but Siemses Speedfax states the following:
All breakers have bolted connections except plug-in type. The panel design provides bracing up to 200,000A IR ULshort circuit rating.

Panelboards and switchboards are listed in accordance with UL 67 and UL 891 and you should be able to get that from the manufacturer. Here's an interesting UL article covering the topic:

So according to that statement, you're saying all Siemens panelboards have 200kAIC?

200 kAIC max. symmetrical, or equal to the lowest rated device installed unless a series rating is indicated. Siemens lighting panels with subfeed or feed-thru lugs without a main device, circuit breaker or fusible unit, are limited to a three-cycle rating, which is sometimes 22 kAIC. Do you have a part number? Lots of literature available on the Siemens web site.

Nope.....
I'm saying the Siemens Speedfax had the quoted statement in the panelboard description.
I also said the info should be verified.
Bottom line, in answer to the OP, yes they do have a rating and you can find it from the manufacturer.
