In an Sawmill's Electrical Room on Private Property, a Sub Panel's 200amp 480 Volt Switch feeds an existing Gutter for distribution in another Building. Is there any relaxation on having an Disconnect for this separate Building if the separate disconnect is able to be locked in the off position in the Main Electrical Room, and the separate feeding Equipment is fom fused disconnets off the gutter?

Curious about the theory... I'm in Canada eh... and found this forum interesting and quick
to respond, but do not have access to NEC Code. In Malls, the Suites require control of their power and a Main Switch. In a Sawmill I assume quick control and safe measures would require a Switch to work on Splitter. Does your code not require a Lockable Disconnect in another Building?

In general the NEC requires a disconnect at the second building, but the exception permits the deletion of second building in some cases.
225.32 Location
The disconnecting means shall be installed either inside or outside of the building or structure served or where the conductors pass through the building or structure. The disconnecting means shall be at a readily accessible location nearest the point of entrance of the conductors. For the purposes of this section, the requirements in 230.6 shall be utilized.

Exception No. 1: For installations under single management, where documented safe switching procedures are established and maintained for disconnection, and where the installation is monitored by qualified individuals, the disconnecting means shall be permitted to be located elsewhere on the premises.
For multiple occupancy buildings, the NEC, in general requires that the occupant have access to the OCPDs that supply his occupancy.
240.24(B) Occupancy. Each occupant shall have ready access to all overcurrent devices protecting the conductors supplying that occupancy, unless otherwise permitted in 240.24(B)(1) and (B)(2).
(1) Service and Feeder Overcurrent Devices. Where electric service a nd electrical maintenance are provided by the building management and where these are under continuous building management supervision, the service overcurrent devices and feeder overcurrent devices supplying more than one occupancy shall be permitted to be accessible only to authorized management personnel in the following:
(1) Multiple-occupancy buildings
(2) Guest rooms or guest suites

(2) Branch-Circuit Overcurrent Devices. Where electric service and electrical maintenance are provided by the building management and where these are under continuous building management supervision, the branch-circuit overcurrent devices supplying any guest rooms or guest suites without permanent provisions for cooking shall be permitted to be accessible only to authorized management personnel

Also you can read all of the NFPA documents at www.nfpa.org, but it is not the most user friendly system. The NEC is NFPA 70.

In a separate building, if you have six or less main disconnects supplied from the feeder and grouped in one location you are still NEC compliant.
