An existing wall sconce light is located on a wall with its wiring coming into a box in the wall in which the switch leg and neutral come into and are connected with wire nuts to the fixture wiring with the fixture being attached to the box.
The fixture now needs to be moved to a location further down the wall and the existing switch leg and neutral home run are not long enough to pull to the new location.
Is it permissible to leave the existing fixture box in place and use is as a junction point to extend the existing switch leg and neutral down to the new fixture box? The existing fixture box would have the switch leg and neutral connected to pig tails with dropped from the existing box down to the new box where they would then be connected to the fixture wiring of the new light mounted on the new box.
The existing box would then have a blank cover plate put over it and would be hidden behind the lampshade of the new light which extends upward from the new lights mounting/box location so the existing box and cover would be hidden.
Any issues with this scenario?
