Overloads for a DC gearmotor

I have a 90 Volt DC gear motor, 1/8 hp, running off a DC drive. It will run a chain that pushes and pulls rather heavy "cassettes" (1800 lbs.) in and out of one of our presses, which probably seems like a lot, but this was actually done for years by hand with a 4" hand crank-shaft. According to the Minarik drive manual, it calls out a certain size fuse for this particular motor. My question is do I need additional motor overload protection? Or can I use this fuse (located on the line side of the drive), as the motor overload protection or do I need to add thermal overloads like on an ac motor.

Usually the drive will have motor overload protection built-in (unless it's an old analog DC drive). Got a model number?

And if it does you will have to program motor data into the drive so it knows what is an overload.
The fuse is sized only to protect the drive and may also have different time-current curves than the motor.
