switch in a different room for lights?

Is is it ok to install a 3 way switch in a different room than the lights? In a basement, the bedroom is at the end of a large room, is it ok to put that 3 way switch in the bedroom? Thank you

I think the analogy used here is it does not even need to be on the same floor; it can be in the attic.
NEC does not regulate location of a switch (you can get into height and reach for ADA commercial but that's n/a here).
Stairways are a little different; one top & one bottom, right?
 
I might suggest a three way at each end of the large room and a four way inside the bedroom. Keeps open the option of controlling the lights from either side of the large room, in the event someone is sleeping inside the bedroom.
