I do not interprate 2005 NEC as requiring AFCI in bedrooms for hotel suites which do not have fixed cooking equipment. Reference 210.60(A) directs to refer & comply with 210.52(A),210.52(D)--neither of the latter 2 references addresses AFCI protection. I am aware that the definition of the term "dwelling unit" comes into play here.

Is this interpretation correct? ie. are bedroom ckts allowed to NOT have AFCI protection in hotel suites that do not have fixed cooking equipment in the suites?

I believe you know the answer already. I agree with you that they are not required in your situation.

Yep....but on the ones that have all the elements of a dwelling unit ( Sleeping,Sanitation,Living and Cooking ) like an regency inn long term suites then 210.12(B) would apply to the bedroom under the 2005 NEC.

The question really becomes: "what is permanent cooking equipment?". Is the microwave that is bolted in place to prevent theft "permanent cooking equipment"?
