I realize this is not an NEC issue, but I am being asked to set up our fire pumps so that when they come on they do not turn off until some one goes out and turns them off. Easy enough to do with a control relay but is there anything prohibiting me from monkeying with Fire Pump Controllers.

Re: Fire Pump Controls

Yes, the listing. Also, you have to be in compliance with NFPA 20.

Re: Fire Pump Controls

Fire pump controllers can have a setting that allows to shut off after running, typically 30 minutes. But since the fire pump code (most of the rules are in NFPA 20) requires the fire pumps to be attended while running, if they start you need to be there.
I have two fire pumps I maintain:
1. I don't make any changes to the settings with out the OK of the fire marshall.
2. I don't modify any wiring inside at all. It has to be done by the factory to maintain the listing.

Re: Fire Pump Controls

Thanks so far guys. I have been getting a bit nervous about it. Our insurance company is the one that is requiring that the pump's stay on once they start and will have to be turned off manually.
