One of our sewer plants needs some roof repair. The contractor noted on the estimate that one of the lightning rod cables is frayed and he recommended replacing it.

I haven't saw it, so I don't know how bad it is. The supervisor over the plant asked me about splicing it. Anyone know if that is OK? I have no experience with Lightning rods.

Remember that lightening is very high voltage and amps for a very short period of time. Make your splice with a butt splice instead of wirenuts. Try to maintain a straight line. Avoid curves or keep them very shallow.

As long as the splice is lightning protection rated--why notc ? when installing Lightning protection systems we splice and downsize conductors all the time.
