I have a customer who has an in ground pool. He is having all the concrete around the pool replaced. This pool has a metal framework. The pool also has a diving board and a ladder, both metal. Am I correct in saying that if I bond the metal framework of the pool, the ladder, diving board and the pool pump, I will be meeting code requirements? I plan on using #8 solid bare wire and suitable connections. Thanks to all who reply.

You might have to bond other metal items also, if there are other metal items within 5' of the pool.

Shouldnt you use a #6 bare copper? jw

Why a #6?

680.26 Equipotential Bonding.
(A) Performance. The equipotential bonding required by
this section shall be installed to reduce voltage gradients in
the pool area.
(B) Bonded Parts. The parts specified in 680.26(B)(1)
through (B)(7) shall be bonded together using solid copper
conductors, insulated covered, or bare, not smaller than
8 AWG or with rigid metal conduit of brass or other identified
corrosion-resistant metal.

You also might want to check with your electrical inspector about installing the Equipotential Bonding grid under the new concrete walkways.
