Hello,

Is there a way to expand the capacity of a junction box on a (remodel) Halo recessed fixture? This is a residential situation involving romex.

I need to relocate some wires from an existing j box that I want to remove. If the recessed fixture's j box could be expanded a bit, I could avoid a cover plate in a hard ceiling.

Many Thanks and Merry Christmas,

PJL

Depending on the location of the wires you could put them into a j box and instead of using a blank cover you could use a smoke detector. This depends on a few variables to make it work for your application, but a good solution to deal with a splice that cant be eliminated. -Glenn

Point is your very unlikely to ever need to get at this junction if you made good neat connections. You simply are making it legal.Romex itself seldom goes bad unless over fused.
Is no need to make a ceiling ugly with an unneeded smoke detector or even a blank plate.
Any future electrician will not have clue the box is even there.

I heard about that stuff called SNOW been told it's white for an hour or so then turns black.
Would be nice to see it christmas morning but not likely here in FL.
Maybe i can find a live cam to watch and turn the AC down for few minutes.
Marry christmas to all
