My library is quite limited,but here's what I found:

1956 NEC, 2351 a. ". . .disconnecting means. . . located at a readily accessible point nearest to the entrance of the conductors, either inside or outside building wall."

1965, similar language at 230-70 (b)

1975, is at 230-72 (c)

1984, is at 230-70 (a)

All my other books are newer, so I don't know about 1897-1956, but suspect that it's been there all along


I asked for proof and you found it so I'll admit that I was wrong. It's one of those things I had to see to believe.

I didn't believe it went back that far either- its kind of neat to see that a few parts of the NEC have remained almost unchanged for over a century.:)

And that 1899 NEC was all of 60 pages.
