Hello,

Would it be code compliant to put a receptacle above a gas fireplace if running the romex trough the area that encloses the fireplace? I would like to fish the romex from the crawlspace, over the firebox and to a new receptacle. It seems like the romex might end up laying on the firebox itself and be damaged by the heat. This is a single family residence.

Thanks,

Just don't allow the NM-B to come into contact with enclosure keep minimum clearance from fire box as any other combustible material.
