I'm not going to quote it all here, but this section seems to me to say that we now (as of NEC2014) need to use red, red striped, or continuously "+" notated wires for our #10 home runs - no taping. Whaddya think?

I think you mean 210.5(C)(2) (2014).

As to question, I think the PV DC conductors from a PV panel to an inverter are not branch circuit conductors. See the definition of branch circuit in Article 100.

there is no article 201 in my copy of the 2014 NEC.
