There are calculations to do.

If you are counting on a thermostat placed in a duct to keep the coils from freezing up you will short cycle the compressors.

I can not envision any scenario where it would be cheaper to completely re-design almost every component of the system.

Without calculation you can not be certain about it.

If cycling time of compressor is more than 5 minutes it may be permissible to operate it that way.

Before slowing the blower down you likely have cooled the space before sufficient humidity was removed for better comfort levels.

Now if you shut down to keep coil from freezing up you may have too much defrost time and not enough run time - ultimately never getting the space cooled enough - comfort level still suffers let alone any energy inefficiencies that come from this.

Where's the OP?

Where's the OP?

It would be nice if the OP would stop back and chime in, considering all the man-hours we're burning discussing his situation. Maybe some basic info, like AC and heating capacities, single or multistage compressor(s), unit CFM, and the volume of the conditioned space. Then we might be able to have something resembling an intelligent discussion.

Adding more supply vents will reduce the amount of air coming out of each vent.
After all these posts, none of us thought of that? Geezy wizz what kind of HVAC forum is this? Oh, it's not!

Or you could have looked at post #54. Don't worry, nobody else seemed to notice.

The OP has not stated any humidity problem due to short run. So most likely it would not happen in the proposed retrofit also.

Control yourself, iwire. for retrofit design to be worked out.

Sahib, you can't even identify the type of unit we are talking about.

Maybe I am mistaken, how about you find a picture on the internet of what you think is being discussed in this thread.
