    120 vac, pool pump motor

    This is an inexpensive, seemingly all plastic enclosed motor for a pool (45") deep.
    Should there still be an equipotential bond to a ground rod and any steel framing for the pool?

    A 45" deep pool does put you in 680 Part II, which does require equipotential bonding.
    I don't believe a ground rod is required, and take a look at 680.26(B)(6)(a) for that pump motor.

    Any pool 42" or greater is considered a "permanent pool" and requires an equipotential grid. No ground rod, just a #8 bare copper encircling the pool, 4-6" below subgrade, 18"-24" from wall of pool. I've never seen a plastic covered pool pump motor. But if there is a lug on it, then bond that to your #8. Also, if there is metal on the pool walls or supports, you need to bond them at 4 equally spaced points around the pool.
    If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time!
