System Connected Fire Alarm Devices

My question is regarding addressable, system connected, fire alarm detectors.

When installing these addressable system connected fire alarm detectors, notification horns are also installed.
Do these detectors also have an independent alarm or is it just the notification horns that provide the alarm?

I know smoke alarm type detectors obviously have their own individual alarm.

The short answer is, "yes." The slightly longer answer is, "mostly."

It is possible to equip even conventional detectors with sounder bases that will provide audible notification when the smoke detector is activated. The is especially the case in sleeping quarters in a hotel or motel, where 520 Hz tones are increasingly required. You really can't do that with a battery operated smoke alarm.
