Trying to determine if EMT one-hole straps are considered fittings? We are arguing about using tie wire in the walls.

Since it is used to make a mechanical connection between the tubing and the surface it is being secured to it seems to meet the Article 100 definition.
Fitting.
An accessory such as a locknut, bushing, or other part of a wiring system that is intended primarily to perform a mechanical rather than an electrical function.

8-5 Log #2239 NEC-P08 Final Action: Reject
(342.6 Exception (New) )
________________________________________________________________
Submitter: Donald A. Ganiere, Ottawa, IL
Recommendation: Revise as follows:
342.6 Listing Requirements. IMC, factory elbows, and couplings, and associated fittings shall be listed.
Exception: Raceway support fittings and accessories shall not be required to
be listed .

Substantiation: The Article 100 definition of “fitting” seems to include raceway supports. Many of the commonly used raceway support straps, clamps, and other items are not listed.

Panel Meeting Action: Reject

Panel Statement: Conduit support accessories are not considered “Fittings”. Sections 300.6 and 300.6(A) require support hardware to be constructed of materials suitable for the environment for which they are to be installed.
Number Eligible to Vote: 12
Ballot Results: Affirmative: 12

In addition for the 2026 code there were Public Inputs to require all of the supporting straps or other devices used with cables or raceways to be listed. That requirement is in the second draft for the cable wiring methods, but it did not make the cut for raceways.

I think it's time for someone to review the horrible definitions in Article 100. This is a perfect example of how bad some of them really are.

An addition of a definition of "securing hardware" would help. Throughout the code that term would need to be used when it means no listing required fastening means.

I personally feel there is no need to use U Bolts listed for RMC vs EMT. A U bolt is a U Bolt. I don't want to see folded nails holding romex though either.

The 2026 code will prohibit the use of tie wire for MC cable. In a lot of cases, the tie wire, will be a more secure support than the commercial clips for that application.

I've always considered "fittings" to be either "connectors" or "couplings" and nothing else. That is how the term was always used on job sites in my area.

A 1-hole would be a "support".

Not sure what 100 has to say about it, and 100 is so half-baked.
