Trying to determine if EMT one-hole straps are considered fittings? We are arguing about using tie wire in the walls.
Fitting.
An accessory such as a locknut, bushing, or other part of a wiring system that is intended primarily to perform a mechanical rather than an electrical function.
I think it's time for someone to review the horrible definitions in Article 100. This is a perfect example of how bad some of them really are.Substantiation: The Article 100 definition of “fitting” seems to include raceway supports. Many of the commonly used raceway support straps, clamps, and other items are not listed.
An addition of a definition of "securing hardware" would help. Throughout the code that term would need to be used when it means no listing required fastening means.I think it's time for someone to review the horrible definitions in Article 100. The 2026 code will prohibit the use of tie wire for MC cable. In a lot of cases, the tie wire, will be a more secure support than the commercial clips for that application. An addition of a definition of "securing hardware" would help. I personally feel there is no need to use U Bolts listed for RMC vs EMT. A U bolt is a U Bolt. I don't want to see folded nails holding romex though either.
I agree. As long as the cable is not damaged the tie wire is usually better. The 2026 code will prohibit the use of tie wire for MC cable. In a lot of cases, the tie wire, will be a more secure support than the commercial clips for that application.
