Curious as to what you guys do to protect the wiring when running low voltage wires up wall for this switch. Conduit Stub up or some type of armored cable?

I've used the special MC cable with the low voltage conductors inside the jacket. It's expensive (about $1 per foot) and requires jumbo MC connectors, but is well worth the cost as far as labor savings and makes for a clean job.

They only need special protection if you need/want to keep it class 2.
If the luminaire or ballast and dimmer allows reclassification to class 1, they can run together or alongside if you're using proper cable (i.e. not 30v thermostat cable) For safety purposes, everything gets treated as if they're hot.

For the same reason as for example.. if you tape a USB cord along an extension cord. If it gets nicked, there's a small chance that something in the USB cable can become bonded to a hot and become energized, which would then cause a device attached on the end to become hot too. A Class 1 listed device wouldn't become shock hazard even if the leads are energized to line level.

Safety aside, I know that any respectable quality GSFL electronic ballasts are designed to resist indefinitely when exposed to line voltage. No idea about China designed LED ballasts though


Does it just dim or is there an ON-OFF function, too?

The on/off portion is a regular switch that maybe linked to the same slider, but electrically isolated from 0-10v portion.

Another question but related. You can't combine in same conduit 0-10v with line voltage switched hot. What would you do in this case....the diagram without the relay? Thanks

Try to find a lighting system that allows the 0-10V circuit to be treated as Class 1 instead of Class 2. Then you can re-identify the control wires as Class 1 and run them in the same raceway with the power wires, since they are related. Just make sure that the wiring is a Chapter 3 type that has the same or higher insulation strength as the power circuit.
Or use the specialized MC that has an inner sheath around the control wires, allowing them to be inside the same outside sheath as the power wires.
