1/4" space questions

When do you need to provide a 1/4" space? Anytime you mount equipment to brick or concrete? Would you use some washers to give you the 1/4" space? I've never been called on this before, but it sure would suck if you were, and had to take it all down!

312.2 only applies to cabinets, cutout boxes and meter socket enclosures installed in damp and wet locations.

So a basement wall may be a damp location is deem so by the AHJ.

But as 480 points out most panels have 1/4" spaces already built into their design.

also, from a Code standpoint, 300.6(D) requires 1/4 spacing for raceways and equipmemt where installed at indoor wet locations.
