What size wire is required for a 10 KW Air Handler in a residential application. I've always used #6, but I had an AC guy mention some inspectors were making others use #4. Thanks.

Many of the newer 10 kw units draw more than 55 amps. Since nm cable is rated 60C you would have to use #4 for over 55 amps. Read the nameplate for MCA.
