I have 200amp service to my house and i want to add a 100 amp service panel to my basement

using a 100 amp subpanel, do i need to have a 100 amp breaker in the main panel to feed the subpanel?

and if so, what type of wire do i use, im in new york were copper is the case here...

(one note, after my electric was upgraded from 100 amp to 200 amp service, i noticed they used alum wire)

When you signed up for the forum there ia an statement that this forum is not for DIY'ers and is for professionals in the electrical industry.
The rules are set by the owner of the Forum, Mike Holt.
And what always bothers me about DIYer posts, is what else they are not asking.
And:
1. Many electricans make a great living correcting DIY installations
2. Make sure your home owners insurance is paid up
3. If you are still intent on doing the work your self, at least get a permit and inspection.
