1000 KVA price

Suppose one was to need a 1,000 KVA transformer with 480 primary and 600/347Y secondary. What would be the most cost effective way to do this. Only need to use it for about maybe 30 hours. I don't want to spend $50,000.

Okay, you have (or will rent) 480/277.

Do you need the neutral on the 600V side?

An autotransformer (buck/boost) arrangement is probably the way to go, you can get your 1000kVA capacity with 200kVA worth of transformer.

If you don't need the neutral, then 2x 100kVA 480:120V transformers in an open delta boost configuration would do the trick.

If you do need the neutral then you would need 3x 67kVA 277:69V transformers in a wye configuration. That isn't a common transformer rating, but it is the same ratio as 480:120V. You could use 3x 100kVA 480:120V single phase transformers and be a bit scant on the rating (a 100kVA 480V transformer used at 277V works just fine but can only handle 58kVA).

Note that a 480-120 transformer is most commonly available with dual voltage primary and secondary, eg 240/480 - 120/240.

Im working on a design that needs a 25kv primary with a 600/347 secondary.
We need onsite testing after design and build and a bid to install a test fixture was 190k.
Aggreko will rent us a genset and xfmr for 15k per month.
I 2nd texie's suggestion.

Inquiring minds want to know, can we get some more details about the load and the nature of the temporary short-term usage? Do you have a 600 volt service from the utility?

it is for testing something that is 600/347 V we might get an order to build. we have 480 coming into the plant. But we don't have 800 kW worth of 480 either. thus the generator.

If aggreko doesn't have it try trinity power, they have branches in the US and Canada and have all sorts of goofy 600v stuff.

...United Rentals....Sunbelt...Rush Power.... (There are a lot of rental places in the IL/WI area.) Might even be worth checking in Canada.

I talked to Trinity. They actually do not have any branches in the US. They have what they refer to as "partners". But they said it was unlikely any of the partners would have 600 V stuff and it would be very pricey to ship a 600 V generator from Canada.

I don't know. The sales guy I talked to said it is expensive and a hassle to get things past customs. More cost effective to get it from the US.

Perhaps you could parallel 4 or 5 autotransformers like the one below. The company seems to be relatively small, and so you might ask them if you could rent instead of buying them. Also they appear to have some used transformers for sale.
