1000 sq ft apartments load calculation

I'm pretty sure I've seen some older 1000 sq ft houses that used to be gas furnace but changed out to heat pump and didn't seem to be a problem with their existing 100 amp service. And apartments. But 'all electric' houses that size require more than 100a, correct ?
 
In Mike's "Free Stuff" using a residential load calculator I did a 1000 sq ft dwelling, 8 kw heat, 8 kw range and got by with a 100 amp service using the optional method. An amazing number of dwelling can get by with a 125 amp service.
