1000 V Underground Splice for PV Wire

Does anyone know of a UL listed 1000 V underground splice that I can use to splice #6 PV wire in an in-ground junction box?

Barrel connectors crimped on. Tape for 1000 V. So wrap varnished cambric 2 layers, rubber tape (130 C) 2 layers, vinyl 2 layers. Outer jacket (slide over before crimping) heavy wall adhesive lined heat shrink tubing.

There really isn’t a “1000 V” splice. Everything is 600 V or jumps to 2 kV or more. So tape splice for insulation and use an adhesive heat shrink jacket for abrasion. Using individual heat shrink jackets on the barrel connectors probably works but they will be Listed for only 600 V. Medium voltage splices are total overkill.

I know it says 600V, but read in the details and descriptions maybe can find one rated for such.

The thing at least with tape is if all the goofy things UL states that ALL electrical tapes must have words that say 600 V or less. This includes for instance Scotch 70 which is silicone tape used for high voltage or stress relieving tape Scotch 2220 that is only used for 2 kV or higher voltage terminations.

The problem you will run into is the most common low voltage cables are 300 and 600 V. I have seen 1.2 kV UL rated cable once in 30 years. 2 kV shielded or unshielded is more common but uses 5 kV terminations. So most people just do tape terminations under 2 kV if they do anything at all and there is almost no demand above 600 V. Tracking (corona aka partial discharge damage) doesn’t start until around 2-3 kV.
